May 5th, 2023 - An Answer to ChatGPT and Wikipedia Cheating

Should you be worried that students will learn to use AI sites like ChatGPT to generate answers for TeacherMade activities? Yes, you should. As an example, we asked ChatGPT to write this product update and this is what it generated:

Hey there, teachers! We've got some news that'll make you feel like a boss in the classroom. With our latest TeacherMade upgrade, you can now stop students from copying and pasting answers from sites like Wikipedia and ChatGPT. Finally, no more getting bamboozled by your students' Google skills!

We know it's tough to catch every instance of cheating in online activities, but this new feature will make it harder for students to get away with it. By disabling the copy and paste function in open answer questions, short answer questions, and student text boxes, you can rest easy knowing that students are putting in the hard work.

So say goodbye to the days of suspiciously perfect answers and hello to the joys of fair and accurate online activities. We hope this new upgrade will help you rule your classroom with an iron fist (or at least with a few fewer gray hairs). As always, if you need any help or have any feedback, our team is always here to support you.

Don't tell anyone. We need this job.

You'll find the new feature to prevent students from copying and pasting into Open Answers, Short Answers and Student Text boxes on the third step of the options as you create a new assignment:

Just set the option to "Prevent" and any student who attempts to paste into one of those items will receive a warning that pasting is disabled. Note that this will keep them from copying and pasting their own work as well. And if you want to turn this on for an existing assignment, just open your assignment and click the 3-dot menu at the top of the left panel then choose "Edit Assignment." You'll have access to all the options, including preventing copy and paste.
