How Do I Share My Activity With Other Teachers?

So, you've created a masterpiece and you need to share your hard work with your colleagues! TeacherMade makes this very easy to do! You just need to turn Sharing on for the activity. That will create a link that you can then send to your colleagues. They can open that link to preview your activity and will be able to copy your activity into their own TeacherMade accounts.

This is also how you can copy an Activity from your Co-Teacher's account to your own.

Turn On Sharing for an Activity

Let's turn on sharing for your activity!

  • Click "Activities" in the left menu of the TeacherMade app. That will bring you to your home page.
  • Find the activity you're interested in and check the checkbox next to it. This will bring up the Activity Toolbar.
  • Click the "Sharing" icon.
  • You'll see a dialog that explains how sharing works. The important details are:
    • This is for sharing with Teachers. If you want to share it with students, you'll instead want to create an Assignment. See this article for details on how to create an Assignment: Assigning Student Work
    • You can share the generated link with colleagues who can make copies into their accounts, but they will not be able to change your copy.
  • Click the "Copy" button to copy that link into your copy-paste buffer.
  • Paste the link into an email or document for your colleagues to use.

What Will Other Teachers See When They Click the Link?

When someone clicks the link, they'll see your activity in "Teacher Preview" mode, which is exactly what you see when you Preview your activity on your own. They can interact with it to see what students will see, though the "Submit" and "Finish Later" buttons are replaced with the "Check My Answers" button.

If they have yet to sign up (or happen to be logged out at the time they're viewing your activity), they'll see this button reading "Sign up/Log in to view this Activity and assign to your Students!":

They'll also see one other button at the top of the screen. If they're already TeacherMade users and logged into their account, they'll see this:

If they they click that button, the Activity will be copied to their account.

Turn Off Sharing for an Activity

To turn off sharing for an activity, repeat the process above to select the activity, and click the switch labelled "Sharing for this activity is currently..." to Off.

You can also change the Sharing settings for an Activity in this menu:

Can Other Teachers See My Student Work?

No! Your student work is private to you (unless you're using the Co-Teacher feature documented here). Viewing and copying your Shared activity only gives the other Teacher a copy of the content you created. Your assignments and student work are still private.

What Happens If They Make Changes to My Activity?

When you share a link to your activity, your colleagues cannot make changes to your activity. They can only preview it and make a copy to their own account. They can freely make changes to their own copy, but your original activity is still yours, and none of their changes will affect your activity.

Can I Share More Than Activity at a Time? Can I Share a Whole Folder?

Yes!!! You can share many activities at once. TeacherMade will generate a block of text that contains a list of activities, including their titles. You can copy and send this to your colleagues, who can then import it using the "New" button on their TeacherMade home page.

To share multiple activities, go to your home page, then check the checkboxes next to each activity or folder you wish to share.

When the Activity Toolbar appears, click the "Sharing" icon.

The sharing dialog will appear, and the text and button will indicate that you are sharing multiple activities.

If some of them are already shared, there will be an option to turn off the sharing for those activities.

Click the "Share selected activities" button to generate the block of text. Click the Copy button to capture the text into your copy-paste buffer.

Send that text to your colleagues in an email, a shared Google document, a Slack channel... however you choose to!

How Other Teachers Import a List of Shared Activities

When your colleagues receive the list of shared activities, they'll follow these instructions to import them into their accounts:

  • Go to your TeacherMade home page and navigate to the folder in which you'd like the copied activities to appear.
  • Click the "New" button and choose "Import Multiple Activities."

  • Copy the list from the email, document, post, etc.
  • Paste the list into the field then click "Import from sharing text."

  • The system will tell you what's about to be imported.
  • Click the "Import new share(s)" button

  • The activities will be copied into your account.
    • Remember: changes you make to your own copies do NOT affect the original activities.
  • If you have more share lists to copy, click "Start Over" and you'll be able to paste more lists into TeacherMade.
